Former BBC man Frank Crozier has died after being in failing health for several months. This, however, did not stop him attending and enjoying his 78th birthday party in April at the Cricketers Club of London where he was a vice president.
Frank was commissioned in the army during the war and after getting a degree at Balliol College, had several jobs in advertising, worked in Nairobi before joining the BBC in the mid sixties.
In his own words, he had a variety of jobs during his 18 years with the corporation including sub editing and writing for the Radio Times, briefly as an announcer on Radio 4 and then with the appointments department and finally with international relations.
He liked mixing with radio news people, particularly correspondents and could be found on many an evening swopping yarns either in the BBC Club in Chandos Street or the George.
It was during his time with the BBC that Frank discovered he had a flair for public speaking and was quickly spotted by the Lord's Taveners. In 1971 at the Mansion House he shared speaking duties with the Duke of Edinburgh and Harry Secombe.
He estimated that over the years he made 650 speeches and put down his affinity with this work to having both a father and grandfather who were vicars!
He was certainly a born raconteur, a member of MCC and a great lover of cricket in general.
