Title: Rare archive of WS news in audio
Post by Forum Admin on Mar 3rd, 2002, 11:33am

A complete library of 16 years worth of World Service news bulletins is being made available to researchers by a Canadian university.

A professor At Concordia University in West Montreal recorded bulletins systematically between 1970 and 1986.

Now the tapes are being transferred onto CD so that they can be indexed and searched - and eventually made available via the Web.

It is understood the BBC itself has no copy of the bulletins.  It has apparently cooperated with Concordia and allowed them rights to use the material.

You can find out more from Concordia's own Web site by clicking here

might be good to hear, say a news bulletin from 16 years ago and compare it with today's truncated version? WS bulletins are now treated much as a log of longish cues...
