ITV has said the BBC should be banned from buying overseas formats such as its Saturday night talent show The Voice, which has been criticised by the government for its cost.
The commercial broadcaster said there should be a blanket ban on the BBC running any acquired content or formats on either BBC1 or BBC2 and should not buy US films or shows “in any circumstances”.

ITV made the comments in its written submission to the House of Commons culture, media and sport select committee’s review of the BBC charter.
It criticised the BBC for a lack of ambition, said it was sidelining its more distinctive offerings such as BBC3, while pumping more money into “highly popular and often derivative and indistinct” programmes on BBC1. It said BBC1 had “chased viewing share at all costs” and any shows that did not “maximise audience share has been marginalised or removed altogether”.

I simply cannot believe that a rival broadcaster such as ITV can be allowed to get away with saying such things!! Talk about sour grapes ...

Perhaps Russel T Davies is right - and the BBC really is lost ... to all of us! [Personally I signed the 38 Degrees petition, as well as responding to all the consultations. However I seriously doubt that the Porker Dave and the Gang - including Whitless Gale - will bother to take any notice of such responses, such is the grip that Rupert Murdoch has on their collective colon.]

I don't watch Sky News because it's just a mouthpiece for Murdoch's view of the world (rather like Fox News is in the States) nor do I read their internet offerings (for the same reason) and I can't abide all the adverts on ITV so unless there's something really special I avoid their channel as well. But then who cares about what one person thinks - the Tories (who represent less than 25% of the electorate in the country) think they know best.
