Title: BBC Club lost contract
Post by Administrator on Mar 4th, 2014, 4:44pm

According to "Ariel", The BBC Club has lost the contract to provide catering services to the BBC.

"Servest, whose catering clients include Tesco, Sainsbury's and Wilkinson, has been given a three-year contract, with the option for a two-year extension.

It will cater for 14,000 staff and their visitors in 18 BBC buildings, including New Broadcasting House, Media Village, MediaCityUK in Salford, Cardiff and Bristol, promising a 'contemporary' service that has 'great people and local, seasonal produce at its core'.

As well as the BBC Club, Servest will replace Aramark and Baxter Storey, with around 300 staff transferring to the new provider."

I wouldn't want to suggest any form of conspiracy theory but could this be linked to trying to finally close down the BBC Club (at least what extremely tiny bit of it that remains in London).
Thus removing a meeting place for colleagues at lunchtime or after work (and admittedly a drink), recovering space in BBC premises for other uses or selling off the space, removing any subsidies (remember Gliding clubs, rugby clubs etc etc) or any subsidies to members generally?
Days of clubs in BH (well the lovely one in the Langham anyway), TC, BU, Sulgrave, LG, AP, KA, Woodlands, White City, Motspur Park, KW - all long gone!

Cynical - moi?

Mike

I am quite happy not being a BBC Club member-but used to be for 30 plus years. Do retired club members bother to try and visit London Clubs anymore anyway?- I would find the whole access thing a soul destroying hassle. In any case-I don't glide or deep sea dive etc, thus don't reckon the membership is worth it one bit.  As for getting my "free" Radio Times( well--I don't miss that either!)
