Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by EyeTunes on Dec 19th, 2013, 9:12am I am a recent convert to HD and tuned my remote to as many HD stations as available. Hey ho!--at 10.25 last night there was no Regional News after the main bulletin--just a red test card saying that HD was not available for Regional News Coverage-tune to SD(in so many words!) telephone conversation----"Hello-It that BBC 1 Presentation- have you got nothing to fill the five minutes between 10.25 and 10.30. What about a nice black and white potter's wheel?" |
Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by Peter_Neill on Dec 21st, 2013, 5:51pm They want you to watch the regional news. For the 18:30 programmes after the first 5 mins or so of red card they go to a loop of HD trailers. When Digital started and they had the same problem of being unable to do regional opts on the digital channel they produced a programme - UK Today - which consisted of local stories from around the country to fill the gap. It was a lot of work and not terribly well received. So the ploy this time round is to put something boring on HD to encourage us to watch our local programmes. My digibox allows me to renumber channels, so I've swapped the HD and SD versions - BBC1 HD is on Channel 1 and I've put BBC1 SD on 999 so it's just 1 press of the channel up/down button to switch between them. |
Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by Dickie Mint on Dec 21st, 2013, 6:34pm You may be interested in the cunning plan to put the HD channels first in the EPG. BBC1 in the Nations, BBC2 already current for sky, some swapping coming in the new year for Freesat, too difficult for Freeview. Richard |
Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by Dickie Mint on Dec 29th, 2013, 7:58pm Further to the topic of new HD channels is an emerging problem with recording them on a Humax Freesat Foxsat HDR. See the Digital Spy thread for more details. But, in short, don't record the HD versions of BBC3/4/CBBC/CBeebies or BBCNews. Use the SD ones. |
Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by EyeTunes on Dec 30th, 2013, 10:13am Sagem had a similar issue a year or so ago with their freesat boxes. This was corrected with a software update-but owners were advised to completely wipe all their existing recordings. This cleared any corrupt files-but being effectively a "factory reset" it left the library empty!...if you kept your library you would have continued to have the problem! Since then no trouble at all, but I don't bother "archiving" now....just keep to view later... |
Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by Roundabout on Dec 30th, 2013, 10:42am What a total waste of facilities, time and money. If we watch anything at all (!) it is still gleaned from the old terrestrial channels 1-5 as we have now seen ....or mostly actually managed to avoid...EVERY re-repeated programme available on the many auto playout 'channels'. All this choice nonsense has long been dispelled! |
Title: Re: More BBC HD channels launching Post by Dickie Mint on Dec 30th, 2013, 8:49pm CORRECTION TO MY PREVIOUS POST: Quote:
From an email reply to me today from Humax, it is the similarly named FREEVIEW Humax HDR Fox T2 that has the bug. The Freesat Foxsat HDR is allegedly unaffected. So my advice is modified to Do Not Record the new HD channels on the Humax Freeview PVR, instead use the SD ones. Humax say they are urgently investigating the problem. And what a brilliant idea to name two different platform PVRs similarly! |
