Title: Mark Byford: £1m BBC payoff 'not greed' Post by Bill Jenkin on Nov 5th, 2013, 2:37pm Mark Byford, the former deputy director general of the BBC, has defended a controversial pay-off package that saw him leave the BBC with £949,000. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-24818636 |
Title: Re: Mark Byford: £1m BBC payoff 'not greed' Post by Peter_Neill on Nov 6th, 2013, 7:55pm If Byford is to believed, he actually wanted to keep his job. And there are those who think that if he had stayed in post he would have averted some of the subsequent foot-shooting incidents. |
Title: Re: Mark Byford: £1m BBC payoff 'not greed' Post by FoxyFace on Nov 7th, 2013, 9:26am Had Byford stayed in his job he would have earned salary( almost THAT million for the two years or so?) and maybe helped avoid some of the Corporate controversies. I sense also that he would have made a very good job of representing the BBC at the recent Parliamentary Select Committees( if the BBC's recent troubles got that far). If then -after all this period-he had been made redundant-he would have picked up Tony Hall's new 150k "redundancy" deal, "claimed" his due pension and walked into the sunset with due acclaim It's a funny old world isn't it? |

Title: Re: Mark Byford: £1m BBC payoff 'not greed' Post by redlight on Nov 7th, 2013, 9:12pm there's a very interesting video on youtube i think it's called "the nine o'clock news behind the scenes " or something like that , it's a very interesting piece on how a news programme is put together , but i think a lot of people on the forum will enjoy spotting how many of the people involved went on to form the "elite" of the BBC over the coming decades , and even to this day ....enjoy . |
