The BBC’s Director of Distribution has announced plans to add 162 new digital radio transmitters to improve national DAB coverage for its national network stations to more than 97%.

"Radio Today" lists here the new areas which will be lucky enough to have their DAB coverage improved.


"The corporation says transmitters will be added at a rate of more than three every two weeks between now and Christmas 2015. Coverage at the moment is just over 93% of the UK. The fourth-phase of the roll-out will bring network BBC radio on DAB to an extra 2.5m people and improve coverage for millions of other"

The 93% is just a statistic. The figure would be encouraging if it included positive answers to the following questions.
1) Are you able to receive a strong clear DAB signal in all rooms in your house?
2) Are you able to obtain a sustained DAB signal in your car all over the UK?
3) Are you able to do both with the aerial supplied with the device/car  and are not relying on any kind of appropriate signal booster .

Helen Boaden is right in her speech yesterday when she says that the UK is NOT yet ready for switchover. The only people who are ready seem to be those who want to sell radios and hype up DAB listening.
