The BBC News Style Guide is now available, courtesy of "The BBC College Of Journalism".

"News style guide.
Audiences expect the BBC to demonstrate the highest standards of English, because well-written stories are easier to understand. In this section is the current style guide for BBC News output.

Although it is only a guide for journalists, it details many rules of spelling, punctuation and grammar. It also covers accuracy, fairness and impartiality.

The Oxford English Dictionary is our preferred reference."

I note from this, if it is current, that both imperial and metric systems are to be used. So maybe those journos who seem to be trying to force us to use the french system are wrong?!

Speak for yourself DM. I only understand metric -- and all that archaic imperial junk just confuses folk. Get rid of it !

I hope this also applies to those tasked with reading and presenting weather bulletins, which seem recently to have grown extraordinary language differences and punctuation-thinly disguised as unfunny entertainment.

Thanks. I have sent feedback to the Sports team about misuse of 'enormity'.
"Bartoli won the first set in 30 minutes as Lisicki failed to cope with the enormity of a first Grand Slam final."

It means 'wickedness' of course (but you all know that).

I have not had a reply, but the sentence has been changed.
