Title: BBC may charge SKY? Post by Administrator on May 22nd, 2013, 12:04pm "The Guardian" claims that the BBC is considering charging SKY to rebroadcast the PSB's programming on its PAY TV platform. "BBC may charge Sky for content as retransmission fee row escalates." The full article is here. Comments to the article include:- "about time". |
Title: Re: BBC may charge SKY? Post by FoxyFace on May 23rd, 2013, 9:02am So-if push comes to shove-does this mean that Sky subscribers might not have access to any BBC channels. Great promo for Freesat!? |
Title: Re: BBC may charge SKY? Post by Amigo on May 23rd, 2013, 10:43am So will Sky subscribers and those with second-hand SKY digiboxes (with no SKY card) miss the BBC channels as well? Why not? "Freesat" wins. BBC (and probably all other PSBs) win. Once "Freesat" launched, the need for the BBC channels to be 'freely available' on the SKY platform vanished. I wonder what percentage of 'SKY' viewing is actually to UK PSBs? Most people think Satellite TV IS "SKY". |
Title: Re: BBC may charge SKY? Post by Administrator on May 23rd, 2013, 10:38pm According to "Broadband TV News", "A spokesman for BSkyB told Broadband TV News: “The BBC directly benefits from the billions of pounds we’ve invested in our TV platform and the technical services that support the 49 channels they run over the Sky platform. These payments are no different to paying for electricity, studio facilities or any other operational costs.”" The full article is here. |
