Title: PLEASE STOP! Post by Roundabout on Apr 9th, 2013, 12:27pm Surely there has been total overkill on all channels concerning the passing of Margaret Thatcher. Everything that could be said was broadcast in the first six hours or so and there is a week before the Funeral! Yes an important politician has died and there is much to say but surely a steady stream spread evenly would be more bearable than this frantic, repetitive stuff. |
Title: Re: PLEASE STOP! Post by Amigo on Apr 9th, 2013, 12:56pm I agree. There are many other very important news items around which are dropping off the scripts. Children's hospitals, etc etc etc. No offence intended to anyone, any political party, or anywhere, however, let the story go. "What is your opinion?" can only go so far. As far as I am concerned, the expression:- "Breaking News" is now devalued. After 6 or 12 hours, this event is no longer- "Breaking News". Once again, no offence to anyone is intended. But there are, now, more important things going on, like a possible nuclear war in Korea! |
Title: Re: PLEASE STOP! Post by JohnW on Apr 10th, 2013, 7:48am Just to echo Amigo, really. But it just shows the trend that News have adopted - the Savile episode was pretty much the same: seemingly a perpetual recycling of the same 'stuff' that really no one wants to keep hearing!:( |
Title: Re: PLEASE STOP! Post by chris west on Apr 10th, 2013, 10:20am Spanish TV news channels, normally only slightly interested in the UK, led on Thatcher on the day she died. A cynic might say that the story was a welcome diversion from yet more embarassing revelations about dodgy (Spanish) politicians and wide-boy members of the royal family. Personally, I'm so glad I'm no longer a news correspondent, a week of Diana-style reverential broadcasting would do me in.... |
Title: Re: PLEASE STOP! Post by Mikej on Apr 11th, 2013, 9:43am At least the funeral procession will not be "anchored" by a collection of Childrens' TV/cooking shows/house buying shows/dance show/singing show presenters like the Jubilee disaster but an experienced presenter named Dimbleby who will actually know what is going on and who is who! http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/22106297 I hear from my colleagues who worked on the technical coverage on The Thames, that the best coverage was on the "World feed" which actually showed what was going on and enabled the various bands to be heard! Title: Re: The Funeral next week.... Post by FoxyFace on Apr 11th, 2013, 10:28am It is historically interesting-provided we see the actuality of the occasion and not the continual obituary re-runs, which sadly will always happen if you have rolling 24 hour news channels Let us hope that next weeks funeral coverage will focus on the funeral service, the comings and goings and the service itself. On Wednesday morning next, I cannot believe viewers will tolerate yet another BBC two hour pre-cursor of a newsreader(Huw Edwards?) interviewing historians and past politicians accompanied by idiotic One Show type TV vox pops of the crowd. If in doubt re the style of the coverage-I would suggest the production team broadly emulate Churchill's funeral. |
Title: Re: PLEASE STOP! Post by Mikej on Apr 12th, 2013, 12:30pm Well at least the BBC have "seen the light" after the Jubilee Pageant fracas, as opposed to ITV having a chat-show host doing the presentation! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2307565/ITV-pit-Phillip-Schofield-Holly-Willoughby-BBCs-David-Dimbleby-anchors-coverage-Baroness-Thatchers-funeral.html Mike |
