If there is one Prom in the series which started last evening wich is televisual and ought to be seen on the box it is tonight's recreation of My Fair Lady with the John Wilson Orchestra and a host of famous actors including Alun Armstrong and Julian Ovenden. But it's only on the wireless. What dismal decision-making!!!

If previous years are anything to go by it will get a showing as a stand-alone later on.

I was so irritated by Clive James and his side-kick making inane comments and talking over the music on the MGM one that I successfully managed to edit him out completely and replace the soundtrack with the radio version.

Well I sincerely hope so....the tx last night was superb (though not technically flawless) and held our attention for the whole three hours although the long gaps when the action on the stage was amusing the hall audience but frustrating us at home were infuriating. Full costume apparently and choreography. Neither go well on the wireless! Maybe a Christmas Special....so why don't they tell us ? But that John Wilson Orchestra is really something........looking forward to Sep 1 when they ARE on the TV with a 27th Aug recording along with the Maida Vale singers.

A case of "Red Button" providing a "No (Irritating) Commentary" option would be a good idea.

Like a "No Background Music" option for everything else broadcast nowadays.

Having just checked, I'm afraid to say that last year's Hollywood Prom doesn't appear to have been televised, but we can hope.

Last years is still on my hard drive - it was recorded from the HD channel 2116-2315 on the 3/9!

That's encouraging. The database I was using is one big blank for that date - no wonder a search didn't find it.
