The annual pay negotiations got underway today with the BBC offering a one per cent pay increase and a minimum rise of £400 for the lower paid.

The joint unions are asking for RPI [Retail Prices Index] plus two per cent, with a minimum increase of £1000 for grades 2 to 11. Based on a current RPI of 3.9 per cent that would amount to an increase of just under six per cent.
