Title: Nat Crosby Post by Johnel on Dec 2nd, 2011, 6:17pm I recently heard that former Film Cameraman, Nat Crosby, died at his home on Sunday, June 19th, 2011 aged 81. He had been suffering with cancer. Soon after winning a Ten Best award (the amateur cine ‘Oscars’) in 1953 with a short drama titled ‘Headline’, Nat joined the BBC as a trainee assistant cameraman where he learnt his trade under the tutelage of Charles de Jaeger and A.A. Englander. He was promoted to Film Cameraman in November 1960 and between then and the day he left the BBC in 1987 his credits covered an enormous range of documentaries, dramas, and features. During his later BBC years he was given opportunities to direct and they grew considerably when he went freelance. Nat wrote his autobiography in 2002 – ‘A Cameraman Abroad – from Panorama to Paranoia’, published by Larks Press, ISBN 1 904006 06 X. For anyone who knew him, or those who want to remember the good old days of the Film Unit at Ealing, it is a jolly good read. |
