Title: New BBC senior managers to get pay cap Post by Administrator on Jun 29th, 2010, 11:34am The BBC has announced that its new senior executives should expect to earn at least 10% less than the pay of their commercial counterparts. While unveiling the new "transparent remuneration policy" yesterday, BBC chief operating officer Caroline Thomson said that newly appointed managers should be prepared for a "clear and explicit discount against the private sector" in their pay level. Thomson said that the pay difference would take "tens of percents" off the salaries of anyone doing similar roles at the BBC's commercial rivals, including Sky and ITV, reports The Daily Telegraph. The BBC has previously set target for reductions in its senior pay, but this will be the first time that it has effectively imposed a salary cap on new recruits. The new policy, which is currently being worked out by the BBC's human resources department, is expected to be implemented later this year. The corporation recently disclosed that it pays 382 of its senior staff over £100,000 a year, with 117 of those earning more than £142,500 a year.
