The Radio Academy and the Radio Independents Group have teamed up to create the Radio Production Awards 2010, with an awards ceremony scheduled for February next year to present the gongs.

The aim of these new awards is to recognise and celebrate the work of UK-based radio and audio producers. Where the Sony Radio Academy Awards recognise programmes, stations and broadcasters, the RPAs will honour the achievement of individual producers and production companies demonstrated by a body of work created and delivered during the previous year.

The Awards will be open to all UK-based radio and audio producers including independents, freelancers and programme-makers working in BBC, commercial, community, student and hospital radio. Entries will also be welcomed from audio producers working primarily in the digital sector on output for commercial or not-for-profit audio streams and podcasts.

Gillian Reynolds, the Telegraph's radio critic will take on the role of Chair of Judges. The deadline for enties will be November 30th 2009, with an awards ceremony in February next year.

BEST FACTUAL PRODUCER
BEST ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCER
BEST MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCER
LIVE MUSIC PRODUCERS OF THE YEAR
(i) The Live Music (concert) Award
(ii) The Live Music (studio session) Award
BEST ONLINE PRODUCER
BEST DRAMA PRODUCER
NEWCOMER
CREATIVE AWARD
*LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT IN RADIO PRODUCTION
*INDIE OF THE YEAR

Categories marked * will be awarded by the RPA committee. No nominations are required.

Trevor Dann, Chief Executive of the Radio Academy, said ”the RPAs will celebrate the work of some of the unsung heroes of British radio. The judges will be looking for flair, innovation and creativity.”

Mike Hally, Chair of the Radio Independents Group, said “recognising the creative genius of the best radio production people has been an ambition of RIG for years and to see it come to fruition in collaboration with the Radio Academy is really exciting. We look forward to these awards becoming a major event in the radio calendar.”
