Title: Anti-spam measures
Post by Administrator on Apr 14th, 2009, 1:01am

Regular users of this forum will know the extent to which it has been invaded by spammers and pornographers in recent months.

Now, new software has been introduced to minimise the problem.

As with any software implementation, there are teething problems - for example, the list of most recent postings is currently missing from the front page.  Apologies for that - we will restore it as soon as possible.

But in general the changes will help us maintain the site in good order, without the need to close it for maintenance.

Thanks are due to two former BBC engineers:  Irvine Brookes, who has kept the site going in difficult and trying
circumstances; and Gareth Jones, who upgraded the software and introduced the new security measures.

If you notice any bugs or problems, please use the "Reply" button and add them to this message.

My account appeared to have disappeared. I've opened a new one in the same name, but my previous posts (in the Stewart Morris obit thread) shows me as ex-member. I can't remember if I posted anywhere else, but is it possible to somehow have these attributed to my new identity?

Is it possible to increase the flash rate of the buttons indicating new postings please. Something like twice as fast would be more obvious I think.

John
